This practical training programme will help finance professionals build business resilience and competitiveness by integrating nature information into core finance processes and decision-making.
Participants will explore how nature-related risks and opportunities can affect a company’s financial performance and position – and how finance teams can respond through planning, forecasting, budgeting, investment appraisal, and capital allocation processes.
The emphasis is on using nature-related information to support better business decisions, rather than treating nature solely as a compliance or disclosure exercise. The programme will reflect the practical realities facing finance teams today as well as relevant developments in good practice, regulation, and accounting and reporting standards. Reference will be made to resources from the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and others, where appropriate.
Training will comprise three sessions designed to enable (and capture) changes in finance team behaviour, processes and decision making. Participants will test a practical application within their organisation between sessions, share lessons with the group and identify how successful approaches could be embedded or scaled. The overall objective is to achieve a transition from topic awareness to practical application.
Why take this training?
- Develop practical ways to integrate nature-related information into established finance processes and decisions.
- Learn from finance, accounting and nature specialists, supported by business case studies and practical exercises.
- Learn from peers facing similar challenges.
- Test and build approaches that can be embedded within routine financial management, governance and reporting.
What you’ll learn
By the end of the training, participants should be able to:
- Understand how nature-related risks and opportunities can affect financial performance and prospects;
- Identify entry points for nature-related data and insights within planning, forecasting, budgeting, investment appraisal and capital allocation;
- Navigate uncertainty, time horizons and trade-offs when incorporating nature into finance processes and decisions;
- Understand the distinct but complementary roles of natural capital assessment (including the TNFD’s LEAP approach) and natural capital accounting;
- Understand how nature-related considerations connect with the wider sustainability reporting and disclosure landscape, including the ISSB and other relevant frameworks; and
- Demonstrate at least one practical action or process change arising from the training.
Who is this course for?
This training is primarily aimed at finance professionals working in business roles – including CFOs, finance directors, controllers, FP&A professionals, management accountants, analysts and report preparers.
We also encourage other business professionals working in sustainability, strategy, risk or procurement roles to join a finance colleague, where this supports cross functional application.
