Finance Nature

Do you work for a bank, investor or insurer and wish to act for nature?

Whether you seek practical guidance or just inspiration, and regardless of how far along you are on your nature journey, A-Track is developing resources to help.

What is nature finance?

In this report, A-Track showed how nature finance includes both reducing harm to nature (“greening finance”) and actively protecting and restoring it (“financing green”). Key barriers to scaling private commercial capital for nature were identified.

What can financial institutions already do today to scale finance for nature?

While focus is often on “financing green”, systemic impact is achievable today through “greening” mainstream finance. Financial institutions can start by assessing how their portfolios depend on and impact nature, then act using core levers of change. This A-Track report shows examples of action by banks, investors, and insurers illustrate these possibilities, demonstrating a roadmap for implementation and offering practical inspiration.

These resources are designed to equip and support financial institutions to integrate nature into investment, lending, and underwriting decisions. By understanding how nature risks and dependencies relate to financial risks and stability, organisations can play a critical part in achieving a nature-positive world where society and economies can thrive.

This work has been developed in close collaboration with membership groups of financial institutions convened by CISL: the Investment Leaders Group, the Banking Environment Initiative, and ClimateWise.
